PRE-SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS’ PROGRAMME

About The Programme

Our Pre-School Performing Arts’ Programme runs in Merton Park on Saturday mornings for 3-5 year olds.  This is an age-specific class, in which students will act, sing, dance and play, whilst developing confidence and communication  skills.

This class acts as a great introduction, or stepping stone, for students to join our main school when they are ready.

Every fortnight will have a different theme / topic- from outer space to animals, puppets to superheroes as well as giving us the chance to explore some traditional stories and fairy tales! Each 90 minute session will be a mixture of movement, music and role play – perfect for stimulating development whilst the short class sections will allow even the youngest students to sustain interest and focus.

Acting

At this age, we have fun with role-play and characterisation.  Young children naturally respond to this approach and, in this way, acting is introduced as a form of play, making it accessible to all and  setting them up for future positive associations and successes.  Whilst structured by the teacher, sessions will also be student-led, giving them some input into the way in which topics are explored.

Singing and Dancing

Each week will involve a portion of singing and dancing – all based around the current theme.  Songs will be used to encourage teamwork, to introduce concepts of rhythm and timing and also to develop confidence.  Dance will come naturally as an offshoot of movement work based on the topic that is being explored.

A perfect balance of learning and energy exertion here for a positive start to the weekend!!

Students will have a 10 minute break during the morning session.
